Gong (Terengganu Gamelan)

Gong is an idiophone instrument that comes in various pitches relative to the size. Bigger size gongs are lower in pitch. In Terengganu gamelan's ensemble which practice slendro scales, there are 5 to six gongs while on regular ensemble, there are a pair of large gongs which consists of higher-pitched gong suwukan, and lower-pitched gong ageng. Gong ageng marks the final beat of the structural cycle, while gong suwukan enters one measure before gong ageng. Gongs is found throughout Malaysia not just only in gamelan ensemble. It usually becomes the main instrument in special traditional ocassions. Nowadays, gong are even strike to remark  an inauguration.
